Alixa and Naima of Climbing Poetree
Innovative artists and activisits Alixa and Naima of the spoken-word, performance art, muralist, and creative new media duo, Climbing PoeTree, have just begun their California tour which goes from Oct 17-22. Starting with a guest apperance on Caroline Casey's Visionary Activist Radio Show airing for an hour at 2pm PST on KPFA.org, Alixa and Naima will share a piece of hte puzzle for Dreaming, Conjuring and Implementing a more lovingly ingenious world.
At the 25th annual National Bionneers Conference in Marin, CA, Climbing PoeTree will be performing throughout the weekend-long event: on the evening of Oct 17 with Caroline Casey, and on Oct 18 and 19 as part of the opening plenaries. The National Bioneers Conference is a pre-eminent forum of innovation and collaboration for achieving social, cultural and environmental justice, where brilliant social and scientific innovators illuminate breakthrough solutions for restoring people and planet. Climbing PoeTree will join actor and activist Danny Glover, biomimicry guru Janine Benyus, indigenous justice leader Tom Goldtooth, Buddhist and environmental scholar Joanna Macy, consumer consciousness advocate Annie Leonard, and other change-makers in addressing pressing issues for today’s world and working to build a rich legacy of social and ecological transformation.
In collaboration with Movement Generation and Cultural Strike, Climbing Poetree will be peforming among other talents in a Music, Comedy and Spoken Word event, sparking the radical imagination for climate justice. Sunday evening, October 19 at Sweet's Ballroom in Oakland.
The morning of October 21, Climbing PoeTree will be bringing together the leading minds on criminal injustice system to talk about how to end mass incarceration and build safe and prosperous communities. Ella Baker Center for Human Rights, Oakland.
Again with Caroline Casey, Alixa and Naimi will be at Impact Hub in Oakland on the 21st and at Haven Underground on the 22nd peforming what they call: Magnetizing Metaphor into Matter. These 3 dynamic women will mix their medicines, spiraling poetic invocations with insightful astro-politico interpretations of our times. They inspire a culture of reverent ingenuity and weave a guiding meta-story to summon the futures we desire!

Climbing PoeTree is the combined force of two boundary-breaking soul-sisters who have sharpened their art as a tool for popular education, community organizing, and personal transformation. Climbing PoeTree’s award-winning performance is composed of dual-voice spoken word poetry, hip hop, and multi-media theatre that challenges its audiences to remember their humanity, dissolves apathy with hope, exposes injustice, and helps heal our inner trauma so that we may begin to cope with the issues facing our communities.
Over the last 10 years, Climbing PoeTree has performed for thousands of people across the U.S. and abroad from Mexico to the UK, South Africa to Cuba, alongside visionary leaders and artists such as Cornel West, Erykah Badu, Alicia Keys, Angela Davis, Alice Walker, Saul Williams, Amiri Baraka, Sonia Sanchez, Danny Glover, The Last Poets, and Dead Prez.
Innovative educators, Alixa and Naima have lead hundreds of workshops in institutions from Columbia University to Rikers Island Prison. They are currently developing a multimedia curriculum based of their latest production, Hurricane Season, that employs art and culture to help learners analyze systems of oppression and resistance, and build new leadership essential for fundamental social change.
